chance 90% tonight, clearing skies, lows middle to upper 30s friday sunday. new at 7, a fairfax man is headed to prison for a train wreck scam. today james love was sentenced to almost four years in federal prison in connection with the crash of an amtrak train into a car. in 2013 investigators say love and deon roberts deliberately parked the car at an allendale crossing, then after the train hit it they went back to the car pretending to be hurt to submit bogus claims. last summer love pleaded guiilty to charges including conspiracy to commit fraud and cause a

the richland county sheriff's office wants your help finding a man wanted for attempted murder. deputies say yakiem breeland shot someone at the circle k gas station on hardscrabble road the day after christmas. if you have any information on where breeland is, call crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. the search is underway for two burglars in sumter county. yesterday two men broke into the exxon on florence highway in mayesville. deputies say after breaking open the front door, the duo took an atm machine, watches and timberland brand boots. if you recognize any of these men, call the sheriff's office or crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. police in the kershaw county town of bethune are trying to find the people behind a series of break-ins. thieves have been kicking in doors at several stores and homes. and mike desumma reports a camera caught one of them in the act. surveillance video shows this masked man -- for

into this main street grocery store in bethune. thankfully it was one area business where thieves were unable to enter. the town's police department says since the beginning of january about seven homes and stores fell victims to burglars. investigators say in most cases thieves kicked their way in --- and quickly made off with any cash that they could find. owners of the bethune meat market say their store was targeted twice. their cash registers were cleaned out the night of the fourth. one week later -- sometime kicked at the markets back door repeatedly trying to get in again. "when we watched the surveillance cameras from next door...it took the guy a minute nine seconds in and out. that's with busting in the door..prying open the register...in and out...one minute nine seconds." "i mean you're talking about bethune here this is a really small place. the businesses around here we don't have the people to come in...so what little bit of money they do take means a lot to these guys up here."

"i'm going to be standing with those folks. because those folks are on the side of right. it's not about taking away your second amendment. there are a ton of seminal cases- i've read 'em. seminal cases that recognize our ability constitutionally to do something about this public health crisis." state senator gerald malloy, and state representative beth bernstein have also filed legislation dealing with

inside south carolina's schooo... is it time close the doors at two rural schools in kershaw county? that's what leaders are considering. the county school board is meeting next week to discuss the future of bethune elementary and mount pisgah elementary schools. officials are considering moving students into a new building --- or into one of the existing schools after renovations. a meeting to discuss options will be held at mount pisgah elementary tuesday night at 6 pm. any plan would have to be approved by district voters. the city of west columbia is asking people living near alpine drive to boil their water before drinking it. west columbia officials are working to repair a water line break that may cause customers to lose water pressure, experience cloudy water or sediment in the water. people living in that area should boil their water for at least one minute before using it. the army veteran who helped lead the charge against the u-s department of veterans affairs for delays in care has

kershaw county. barry coates died of cancer saturday. in 2014....he testified before congress that he had to wait a year for a colonoscopy. the procedure was reportedly delayed at several v-a facilities. he eventually got the procedure, only to learn he had terminal colon cancer. coates' story led to national controversy about lengthy waits at v-a hospitals and led to the overhaul of the department of veterans affairs. the 46-year-old husband and father was buried yesterday in bethune. several pastors in the greater columbia area have an invitation for you for this weekend. details next. plus, one midlands charity is asking you to open up your home to a fury friend. we'll tell you how. break 1

calling all dog lovers with an open heart and an open home! paals, or palmetto animals assisted life services, is looking for weekend foster parents for future service pups. the group raises and trains dogs to provide therapy and intervention for disabled people. the number of dogs they can train depends on the number of families willing to foster puppies on weekends.
